Dunhuang art meets 24 Solar Terms at China Pavilion of Expo 2025

The 2025 World Expo in Osaka, Kansai officially opened today (April 13th), with the China Pavilion also holding its grand opening ceremony the same day, welcoming visitors around the globe. This year's China Pavilion showcases a deep sense of cultural and humanistic spirit. At the heart of the exhibition is the work of 94-year-old master artisan Chang Shana, a first-generation pioneer of modern Chinese arts and crafts. With heartfelt brushstrokes, she brings the timeless elegance of Dunhuang art into dialogue with the 24 Solar Terms, the ancient Chinese calendar system based on seasonal changes. With a fresh, contemporary sensibility, her work breathes new life into the traditional worldview of harmony between humanity and nature.

In the "Harmony Between Humanity and Nature" section of the China Pavilion, a traditional Chinese pattern artwork inspired by the 24 Solar Terms is presented to the world through an immersive multimedia installation.

The 24 Solar Terms, created by ancient Chinese agricultural communities, reflect the movement of the sun and seasonal climate variations. For generations, they have guided the rhythms of life—sow in spring to grow in summer, harvest in autumn for storage in winter—embodying the ecological wisdom of the Chinese people in living harmoniously with nature.

This featured piece was created by Chang Shana, a renowned Chinese arts and crafts master, and a key advocate for the research and design application of Dunhuang art patterns. The animation was produced by the China Film Group Corporation (CFGC). Known as the "Daughter of Dunhuang," she has not only preserved this ancient aesthetic heritage but also successfully integrated it into contemporary design, enabling a new generation to experience its enduring beauty.

敦煌艺术融入二十四节气 中国传统纹样亮相世博会中国馆

2025年大阪·关西世博会于今日（4月13日）正式开园，中国馆也于13日举行开馆仪式，正式迎接参观者。本届世博会中国馆展陈人文情怀浓郁。94岁高龄的一代工艺美术大师常沙娜先生用饱含深情的笔触，将绚烂千年的敦煌艺术神韵融入二十四节气循环往复的自然律动，为天人合一的传统表达增添了时代新质。

在中国馆“天人合一”展区，一幅和二十四节气有关的中国传统纹样艺术品通过大型多媒体装置呈现在世界面前。

“二十四节气”是中国先民在长期农业生产中，根据天地运行和气候变化规律创造的时间制度，千百年来指导着人们春耕夏耘，秋收冬藏，体现出中国人民顺应天时、勤劳耕耘、与自然和谐共生的生态智慧。

这幅作品出自94岁高龄的敦煌艺术图案研究和设计应用重要推广者、中国著名工艺美术家常沙娜之手，并由中影集团制作动画。常沙娜先生被誉为“敦煌女儿”，不仅深耕敦煌艺术，更将这份古老的美学智慧融入现代设计，使之焕发新生。
